I got fired from my job one month ago. I worked there for four years. They didn't really give me a reason, but they let 30% of the staff go on 10/26 I had some savings, but after my rent, car insurance, health insurance, streaming services, etc., I have nothing left. I've since canceled anything unnecessary but a little too late. I have a degree, and I've been applying to lots of jobs in my field, but I've not heard anything back yet. I sat in Starbucks this morning with my laptop, applying for jobs and checking my emails. I checked my bank account, which is down to double digits, and I wasn't sure if I could afford to get a coffee or not. I sat there for about 40 minutes and noticed that there was an unclaimed coffee, probably from a mobile order. I was very nervous, but I was pretty sure I could just pick it up and walk out, and no one would say anything, so I did. I walked up to the counter and picked up the coffee, and at the same time, the barista came over and asked, “are you– Steve?” I nodded yes, and he said have a great day. I felt like it was a great success, but since then, I've started to feel increasingly guilty.
